How to get the best out of your lawyer – Part Two

In the second post of my series on getting the most out of your lawyer, I am discussing information. My next top tip is to ensure that you give your solicitor all the information possible regarding your case. Information that you give to the lawyer at the beginning of your case and ongoing throughout, is essential to the smooth running of your case.

A lawyer can never act in your best interests if they do not have all the information available.

Information

•Be truthful. If your Solicitor has requested various pieces of information/documentation from you whether this be in relation to a financial matter or matters concerning children then be truthful about the information you provide. Do not hold any information/documentation back as this may be important to your matter. Your Solicitor cannot advise you properly until he/she is armed with all the facts.

•Be organised. When you provide information/documents to your Solicitor give the information/documentation in an organised way. Producing information/documentation in a haphazard way will result in your Solicitor having to look through the information/documentation and organise it in a certain way so as to make it understandable. This will increase the time and costs on your matter.

•What documents? Your Solicitor will tell you what information is required. If you think your Solicitor requires more information then provide it.
