Part Three – Getting the most out of your lawyer

The 3rd of my 5 posts on how to get the best out of your lawyer is all about time.

•Will it take long? Resolving legal disputes takes time. Each matter has its own set of facts so the resolution of each case varies. If you are concerned about how long your matter is taking then let your Solicitor know.

•Respect your Solicitor’s time. Whilst your matter is important to your Solicitor, it is also not the only matter that he/she is dealing with. If you telephone your Solicitor then it is likely that he or she will be in the middle of dealing with another matter. It is often better to arrange a face to face meeting with your Solicitor so that both he/she and you can prepare for that meeting.

•Be patient. There are all sorts of varying reasons as to why some legal disputes take longer than other similar disputes to resolve. If you think your matter is taking longer than a friend’s or a family member’s similar dispute then ask your Solicitor about this but stay patient and calm
