Divorce Online recently examined divorce petitions where the wife applied for a divorce on the basis of the Husband’s unreasonable behaviour. In 15% of these petitions the wives complained that their husband spent too much time playing computer games.
Where a Divorce Petition is filed on the basis of the other spouse’s unreasonable behaviour, details of the unreasonable behaviour must be included within the Petition. These details can be varied but must be sufficient enough to show to the Court that your spouse has behaved unreasonably. Playing computer games (and presumably spending less time with your spouse) is an appropriate example of such unreasonable behaviour. Social networking sites such as facebook are also increasingly causing family disputes. Other behaviour can include not carrying out domestic duties at one end of the spectrum to domestic violence at the other.
If you consider that your marriage has broken down due to your spouse’s unreasonable behaviour then you should seek legal advice regarding this issue. This could have knock on effects in relation to resolving the matrimonial finances and children matters. We at Chafes have a team dedicated to providing this service to you.
