If you do, be aware that the CSA (Child Support Agency) may be coming to get you!
There is an estimated £3.7 billion owed in unpaid child maintenance and there is a new determination by the Child Support Agency (CSA) to crack down on parents who fail to support their children.
The CSA can obtain a Lump Sum Deduction Order and that is what they did in two recent cases.
In the first case £108,000 was forcibly removed from the father’s bank account after he had refused to pay any child support for his daughter for more than 16 years. The CSA were able to use powers to find the father’s money and freeze it.
In the second case the father refused to pay any child support towards his child for 8 years and £20,000 was taken from his bank account.
The CSA now have powers not only to deduct money from bank accounts but also to force the sale of properties, deduct money from earnings, seek liability orders, disqualify you from driving or imprison you.
So be aware, if you have been avoiding paying child support for your children you may be the next on the CSA’s hit list.
