Chris Welton, the senior partner at Chafes Solicitors has been elected to the national Law Society Council as one of the two representatives for Manchester, Salford, Stockport and District. Coronial and employment law specialist Chris, who is based at the firm’s Alderley Edge office, will represent all solicitors in the local area on a national level.

Chris has been appointed by the Law Society of England and Wales, the membership body for all solicitors in the country alongside Manchester-based solicitor Nigel Day, from Hague Lambert. The role will involve working with all of the local law societies in the region and he will report back at Law Society Council meetings. He will take office at the end of July 2006.

Speaking about his appointment Chris says: “This is a great opportunity for me to play an active role to ensure that the achievements and issues faced by solicitors in the region are communicated with the Law Society in London.

“Since opening Chafes’ Alderley Edge office as a partner in 1973 I have seen the legal profession go through many changes. I look forward to undertaking this new role and working with my associates by building upon my experience and contacts within the region.”
