CHAFES SOLICITORS HIT THE BIG KERCHING FOR CANCER RESEARCH UK
Chafes Press Release PR109 : 2nd October 2006
Chafes has collected 80 bags of items for its local Cancer Research UK shops, as part of a national charity initiative called The Big Kerching. Staff at the New Mills office of the solicitors firm each filled up bags of unwanted items such as clothes, CDs, homewares and books for re-sale at the shop as part of the firm’s commitment to raise money for Cancer Research UK this year.
The bags that were collected at this office were taken to the local Cancer Research UK shop at Market Street, Marple.
Avril Fletcher from the Marple branch of Cancer Research UK said: “The many items that have been donated by staff at Chafes will help us at the shop and we expect to raise a great amount by selling the items.”
The firm has decided to raise money for Cancer Research UK this year in memory of staff member, Monica Wild who was based at the New Mills office and lived in Marple. Monica worked at Chafes for 46 years.
Speaking about the collection, Chafes partner Mike Travis said: “Undertaking the Big Kerching has been beneficial for everyone as our staff have been given the opportunity to donate any unwanted items they may have had at home and support their local community in the process.
In addition to the charity collection, Susan Lee, a family solicitor in Chafes’ Wilmslow office decided to dye her hair blonde to raise sponsorship for Cancer Research UK. Susan has raised over £200 for the charity.
